Indian Railways has introduced measures to make traveling with pets more convenient, particularly for those with dogs and cats. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) now offers an online booking service for pets in AC First Class. This eliminates the need for pet owners to visit parcel offices before their journey.
Passengers can now reserve pet spaces online, making the booking process seamless. However, to book a pet ticket, the passenger’s ticket must be confirmed. If the passenger cancels their ticket, the pet ticket is non-refundable. In cases of delays or cancellations exceeding three hours, refunds are processed only for passenger tickets, while pet tickets remain non-refundable.
Friendly for Everyone!

Small pets, including puppies, can travel in covered baskets in any class compartment. However, the guidelines do not specify the exact age that defines a ‘puppy.’ For a comfortable journey, passengers traveling with pets in AC First Class are advised to book an entire four-berth cabin or two-berth coupe under a single PNR. Priority requests for these accommodations can be made through divisional or general railway managers.
Traveling pets must be fully vaccinated, with proof of vaccination provided at the time of booking. Additionally, a veterinary certificate detailing the pet’s breed, color, and gender is required. Pets must also be checked in at the luggage office at least three hours before the train’s departure. Only one pet is allowed per PNR.

These measures aim to enhance the travel experience for pet owners and their companions. For more information and to make reservations, passengers can visit the IRCTC website or contact railway authorities directly.
