What Happening in AMC
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has a new rule. Every pet dog and pet cat inside the city must be registered. This is no longer an option. It's mandatory.
Dogs were already under this rule. Now cats are included too.

The main goal is to help make Ahmedabad rabies-free.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is following Supreme Court directions and guidelines from the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI).
Pet registration helps the authorities keep track of pets and their vaccination records. It also helps raise awareness among pet owners to take more care of their pets.
Timeline
This is the window to be remembered:
Dogs: July 1 to September 30, 2026
Cats: July 9 to September 30, 2026
Both close at the same time. September 30 is the last day.
The process (step by step)
The good news is that there's no need to visit the office. Everything is online.

- Look for the pet registration area.
- Fill in your details and your pet's details
- Upload documents — Aadhaar, a property bill and a photo of your pet.
- Pay the fee online
- Submit and save your confirmation

What Changed With This Registration
Before, only dog registration was enforced. For cat owners there was no formal process.
Cats have now become a part of the system as well. And AMC made the whole thing online not just for cats, for dogs as well. No lines and no paperwork to government offices.
Right now, cat registrations are still low compared to dogs. The majority of cat owners are not registered. Don't be one of the last-minute ones.

Out of the cats, 72 were native breed cats, and 117 were "Other" breeds
Labrador Retrievers are the top dog breed with 3,939 registrations. German Shepherds and Shih Tzus come next
North-West Zone has the most cat registrations, with 44. West Zone is close behind
