The Birth of the Doberman Breed

The Doberman originated in Germany at the end of the 19th century. One man, Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann, desired the ideal protection dog.

He was a tax collector, dog catcher, and night watchman. It was not safe to go out with a lot of money on the perilous streets, and he desired a dog that would protect him.

He started blending various breeds which was supposed to consist of:

Rottweiler                →  Strength and guarding instinct.

German Pinscher    →  Alertness and agility

Weimaraner             →  Endurance and running skills

Greyhound               →  Speed

Manchester Terrier  →  Sharpness and quick reactions
