Kids Parade Python Sparks Concern In UP Village

This week, a group of kids from a hamlet in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, gained notoriety after they were spotted strutting about with a 15-foot Indian rock python. The incident, which was caught on video, quickly went viral and raised serious questions about wildlife safety, child protection, and public awareness.

The children reportedly found the snake near fields close to their village and decided to show it off. They carried the massive reptile for nearly two kilometers, surrounded by a crowd of onlookers who appeared both amused and curious. Fortunately, no one was injured during the march, and the snake was later released safely into a nearby forested area.

However, the Indian rock python is a Schedule I species under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, meaning it is protected by law, and any mishandling or harm can result in legal action. Forest officials have launched an investigation into the incident and are trying to determine whether the snake was captured intentionally or if the children stumbled upon it by chance.

Wildlife experts have raised concerns over the lack of awareness about animal protection laws, especially in rural areas. They also warn that such interactions with wild animals, especially by children, can be extremely dangerous.

Though the python in this case appeared non-aggressive, experts say that snakes—even non-venomous ones—should never be handled by untrained individuals.

This incident highlights a growing need for community-based wildlife education programs. As human-animal interactions increase due to shrinking natural habitats, teaching both children and adults how to respond safely and legally is becoming more important than ever.

While the curiosity of the young villagers is understandable, wildlife advocates hope this event serves as a wake-up call for better enforcement and education around pet safety, wild animal respect, and responsible behavior.
